Walking tour to the best collection of tropical palm trees

From the boat itself, cruise-goers arriving in the port of Santa Cruz can make out the image of Palmetum and its palm trees next to the sea in the city's bay. Palmetum is an original botanical garden whose collection of palm trees from tropical islands is considered the most important in the world. It houses two thousand different plant species, including almost five hundred palm trees from all around the world: from the Caribbean, New Caledonia, Indochina, New Guinea…

Nature area for botanical culture and leisure

From the port, a short walk takes us to this extraordinary botanical garden that used to be a rubbish dump. A complex regeneration process turned it into a nature area for leisure and botanical culture, laid out between little lakes and waterfalls and viewing points with views of the sea. The jewel of Palmetum is its octagonal greenhouse, which provides shelter for specimens that need lots of humidity. The garden is open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
